The Kenny neighborhood, as well as its park and its elementary school were named for Sister Elizabeth Kenny, an Australian nurse who developed the Kenny method of treating polio. The neighborhood has a lake on its south end called Grass Lake. Most of the houses in the neighborhood were built in the 1940s or later. The neighborhood has a great mix of longtime and new residents.

Kenny is located in the southwest corner of Minneapolis. The area includes a portion of Lake Harriet, Minnehaha Creek and the park and trail system that ties them together. Surrounding neighborhoods include Windom, Armatage, Lynhurst, Linden Hills, East Harriet, Kingfield, Fulton, and Tangletown. Neighborhood boundaries are:
