Uptown is a commercial and residential community in south Minneapolis bounded by Lake Calhoun on the west, Dupont Street on the east, 31st Street to the south and 28th Street to the north. Its hub, the intersection of Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue, is the center of a lively, upbeat business district. Uptown’s 15,000 residents make it a vibrant area that is constantly changinng. It is filled with eclectic businesses and entertainment. You can find movie theaters, retail stores, coffee shops and retaurants of all kinds. Uptown proper is primarily made up of parts of the Lowry Hill East, ECCO, Carag and East Isles neighborhoods.

Housing in Uptown has seen a recent surge in gentrification. This has caused an increase in property value and in property taxes. At the same time, there is a glut of available rental housing in the area, resulting in lower-than-city-average rents.

Uptown is located in the southwest corner of Minneapolis. The area includes a portion of Lake Harriet, Minnehaha Creek and the park and trail system that ties them together. Surrounding neighborhoods include Windom, Armatage, Kenny, Linden Hills, East Harriet, Kingfield, Fulton, Lynhurst and Tangletown. Neighborhood boundaries are:
